Bush may receive Reagan nod soon

WASHINGTON President Reagan may abandon his pledge ofpre-convention neutrality now that Vice President George Bush isvirtually assured of the Republican presidential nomination, theWhite House said Thursday.

Reagan had promised to stay out of the fray until the partyconvention chooses a nominee in August, but administration spokesmanMarlin Fitzwater said Bush's "now seemingly assured nomination" hascreated "new realities."
